Online OData Viewer

Free online OData visualizer. Enter the URL of an OData service, paste its $metadata document or upload the EDMX/CSDL file, and explore the service as an expandable tree, an entity-relationship diagram or syntax-highlighted source — entity sets, entity types, keys, properties, navigation properties with multiplicities, complex and enum types, functions and actions. OData V2, V3, V4 and V4.01 (XML and JSON) are supported.

The data explorer queries entity sets of the live service with $filter, $select, $orderby, $top, $skip and $count, follows next links and shows the exact request URL — also for services behind HTTP Basic authentication; credentials are forwarded per request and never stored. Sample services such as Northwind and TripPin are built in.

What is OData?

OData (Open Data Protocol) is an OASIS standard for REST APIs over data models. A service publishes a $metadata document that describes its entity types, keys, relationships and operations, and clients such as Excel, Power BI, SAP Fiori or any HTTP library can query it with a standard URL grammar ($filter, $select, $expand, …). Version 2 is still common in SAP landscapes; version 4 is the current standard.

Where do I find the $metadata URL?

Append /$metadata to the service root, for example https://services.odata.org/V4/Northwind/Northwind.svc/$metadata. You can paste either form here; the viewer figures out the rest and follows redirects.

Why not call the service from the browser directly?

Most OData services send no CORS headers, and many require HTTP Basic authentication. This site therefore fetches the metadata and the data through its own backend, which only forwards credentials over HTTPS, keeps parsed metadata in memory for a short while and stores neither documents nor credentials. Internal or intranet addresses cannot be reached from here.

Are my credentials stored?

No. Basic Auth credentials stay in the browser tab's memory and travel with each request to this site's backend, which forwards them to the service over HTTPS only and drops them when a redirect leads to another host. They are never written to disk, logs or the usage statistics, and share links are only offered for services without credentials. If you would rather not send them anywhere, run the viewer yourself with Docker.

Which OData versions are supported?

OData V2 and V3 (EDMX 1.0 with associations and function imports, SAP annotations), V4 and V4.01 (EDMX 4.0 and CSDL JSON, vocabularies, bound functions and actions, singletons, containment).
